Solar systems for residential and commercial use are becoming more affordable today than they have ever been in the past, due to both government rebates and tax incentives.
For example, below is a cost breakdown of a 3.8 Kwh (3,800 Watts) Residential Grid Tied solar system. This is a standard sized system you would find in most 3 to 4 bedroom homes.
Cost Breakdown of Residential Grid Tied System
| System Cost * | $36,100.00 |
| CEI Rebate ** | $8,360.00 |
| Net Cost | $27,740.00 |
| Investment Tax Credit *** | ($2,000.00) |
| Actual Cost of System | $25,740.00 |
* System Cost – This is an estimate of the total cost. Actual price can vary depending upon installation circumstances. Pure Energy Systems will help determine the size of the solar system appropriate for your needs.
** CSI Rebate – A cash rebate of $2,200 per Kwh ($2.20 per Watt) is available from the California Solar Initiative (CSI) for Grid Tied systems. Off Grid systems do no qualify for the rebate. This rebate applies to both residential and commercial applications. Pure Energy Systems will handle all the appropriate paperwork for you.
*** Investment Tax Credit – A 30% investment tax credit is available for both Grid Tied and Off Grid systems. The 30% applies to the net cost after any rebates and incentives. The rebate is capped at $2,000 per year for a residential system. There is no cap on a commercial solar system.
MACRS – Commercial, non-incorporated companies qualify for a five year accelerated depreciation method called MACRS. We recommend you consult your tax accountant on all tax credit and depreciation issues.
